The city of Salvador is located in the state of Bahia in Brazil.  It is located on the northeast corner of the country and it the capital of the state of Bahia.  It has a well earned reputation as Brazil’s capital of happiness due to the easygoing population of citizens and countless outdoor parties held in the area.  Let’s talk more about this relaxing and fun city.

Salvador is Brazil’s third most populous city, after Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and it is the ninth most populous city in Latin America.  It was also the first colonial capital of Brazil and is one of the oldest in the country and in the New World.

One notable feature of the city is the escarpment which divides Salvador into the upper town and the lower town.  The upper town is approximately 85m above the lower town and is reached by an elevator (which was the first installed in Brazil).  It was originally installed in 1873 and has gone through several upgrades since that time.
